About Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the capital city of The Netherlands.

With so much to see, do and experience in Amsterdam, it can be hard to know where to begin. Let our guide to the best things to do inspire you, or find all things to do in Amsterdam.

Visit the world-famous 17th century capital of Holland. Enjoy the historic buildings, beautiful museums and pleasant ambiance. Go for a boat tour on the canals, stroll through Vondelpark, and go shopping in the inner city. Amsterdam is a unique city!

Golden Age canals lined by tilting gabled buildings are the backdrop for Amsterdam's treasure-packed museums, vintage-filled shops and hyper-creative design, drinking and dining scenes.

There’s so many things to do in Amsterdam… visiting the Museum Quarter, the Rijksmuseum, the National Monument, the Heineken Experience and so much more that it might be hard to make a good selection on which items to include in your itinerary.
TIP: Get the I Amsterdam City Card for free attractions, discounts and free public transport. And consider this top rated Volendam, Marken & Windmill tour

With every justification, Amsterdam is one of Europe’s top short-break destinations. It’s a compact, instantly likeable city, that’s appealing to look at and pleasant to walk around. An intriguing mix of the parochial and the international, it has a welcoming attitude towards visitors and a uniquely youthful orientation, shaped by the liberal counter-culture that took hold in the 1960s. Also engaging are the buzz of its open-air summer events and the intimacy of its clubs and bars, not to mention the Dutch facility with languages: just about everyone you meet in Amsterdam will be able to speak near-perfect English, on top of their own native Dutch and often French and German too.

Upon arriving in Amsterdam you can’t help noticing that the Dutch like bikes. Seemingly just about everyone here rides a bike. It is not unusual to see mothers, grandmothers, business people, police officers, old and young hippies, and so on happily bike along.

Get inspired and fall in love with the beautiful city called Amsterdam! Visit the world famous Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum. Shop till you drop in fashionable clothing shops, wander all day at vibrant flea markets, colorful flower markets and explore the treasury of historic Amsterdam from the water.
